Special Project Profile - Handrails

  • The Challenge: ADA friendly, all weather architectural handrails in a small healthcare campus park. After successfully completing a large, complicated kitchen buildout for Providence Health & Services, project managers approached PSP with a different challenge. They envisioned modern stainless steel and wire handrails with graceful arches throughout their new on campus rest area. Durable and able to withstand the constant moisture of the Pacific Northwest climate and engineered to be ADA compliant, stainless steel was the perfect building material. Having proved our prowess with this difficult to fabricate material, PSP gladly accepted the challenge.

  • The Solution: PSP's engineers and fabricators leveraged years of architectural expertise and our state of the art fabrication tools to craft individual railings and mounts. The project called for multiple arched pedestrian bridge rails, concrete stairway handrails and a large assortment of unusually shaped top rails. Curved rails were meticulously mandrel bent to the finished profiles and mounting brackets were hand crafted and fitted here in the shop prior to field installation. The entire project was virtually assembled using 3D software rendering tools to avoid costly field repairs and the fitment issues so common with architectural handrails.
